We all like to be kept busy, arranging that meeting with a friend we haven’t seen for a while, and fitting in one last task before dinner.
But sometimes we can push it too far. You’ve heard the saying: ‘I can’t be in two places at once”. Well, with all our commitments it’s easy to forget that there’s only one of us – and we shouldn’t wear ourselves out. Because while you can change the filter in your water jug or the bag in your vacuum, we’re each of us unique – and there’s no ready replacement lined up.
This is why Public Health England has launched a ‘One You’ campaign, all about encouraging us to look after number one. Over £3.5 million has been invested in publicity, activity and a new website to encourage people to treat themselves properly. There are tools, messages of support and encouragement along the way. The new ‘One You’ site boldly states “Modern life makes it hard to be healthy. The good news is that we can fight back”.
Public Health England is urging people to take more exercise and eat fewer foods that are high in saturated fats, for a healthy body and mind, and to develop healthier habits. They believe it’s the way to prevent diseases later on in life.
You can take the One You test here. It’s a free and quick way of checking your health – and a great way of seeing whether you need to take action to improve your lifestyle. There’s also an app called Couch to 5K from the App Store and Google Play to download – this is designed to get you off the couch and running, achieving a 5k run in nine weeks. Plus, to help build a fitter you, the NHS has apps to help reduce alcohol consumption and assist stopping smoking.
At ProActiv we’re right behind this message of taking regular exercise and the right diet to give you the lifestyle that you want. We like to encourage a healthy diet and active lifestyle – there are great recipes here on our website, ready for you to create nutritious dishes; and a Starter Kit to kick start your journey towards lower cholesterol.
Cholesterol in itself is an important building block for the body’s cells. But having too much ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol can lead contribute to cardiovascular disease risk, which can lead to illnessessuch as coronary heart disease.
The good news is that ProActiv contains plant sterols, clinically proven to reduce cholesterol in the body*. Plant sterols work by partially blocking the absorption of cholesterol in the gut, reducing the amount of cholesterol that enters the bloodstream. ProActiv can be enjoyed as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle in order to help lower cholesterol.
And while we’re talking about tests, how about you take the One You test today and give yourself a health MOT. Remember, you’re one of a kind – so don’t try to double up!
To help you with your health MOT, why not have a look at the latest ‘Eat Well Guide’, developed by Public Health England? The ‘Eat Well Guide’ provides a recommendation to help you get a balance of healthier and more sustainable food. It shows how much of what you eat overall should come from each group of food**.
