Over half of UK adults have high cholesteroli – a major risk factor for Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) – the single most common cause of death for men and women. Although NHS staff have a vital role to play in helping patients address the lifestyle risk factors associated with high cholesterol, research has shown that more than 1 in 4 healthcare professionalsii don’t know their own cholesterol level!

It’s because of this that Flora ProActiv is on a mission to help build understanding of cholesterol among healthcare professionals and drive awareness of the role that diet and lifestyle can play in managing it – for their own health and the health of their patients.

In April, more than 70 staff members at the Camden & Islington Foundation Trust and Kingston NHS Foundation Trust took the important first step towards their health and had their cholesterol checked. 20 of those people learned they had elevated cholesterol and committed to taking part in the Flora ProActiv 21 Day Challenge to lower it.

For 21 days, participants will do three things to help lower their cholesterol: eat a healthy, balanced diet consisting of cholesterol lowering foods, find more ways to become active during the day and consume Flora ProActiv every day (1 mini drink or 3 servings of spreads or milk per day). Flora ProActiv contains plant sterols, which have been shown to lower blood cholesterol. In fact, consuming 1.5–2.4g of plant sterols daily as part of a healthy diet can lower cholesterol by 7-10% in only 2–3 weeks.*

In 21 days they will have their cholesterol re-checked to see how adopting a healthy lifestyle, following a balanced diet and eating Flora ProActiv, containing plant sterols, can really help lower cholesterol.

Don’t forget to check back in a few weeks to learn of their journey towards better heart health.
